DESOTO COUNTY. Miss. (FOX13) - If you can't find something to do this Memorial Day weekend in north Mississippi you may not have looked hard enough or close enough.

The cities of Horn Lake and Southaven are hosting new events this holiday weekend - the Magnolia Fest in Horn Lake and the Delta Country Jam at Snowden Grove in Southaven.

"This is an opportunity for our citizens to bring our citizens quality entertainment and family entertainment  and we try to keep it reasonable so you can bring your whole family," said Horn Lake Mayor Allen Latimer. "We will have a first rate carnival, we will have bands in here, and a lot of activities."

Mayor Latimer hopes among other things that his city's first ever Magnolia Festival in Latimer Lake Park draws guests in both Friday and Saturday.

"Economically it brings in some people in but the main goal is to provide a better quality of life," Mayor Latimer said. "Hopefully people will come on and stay and spend money at the restaurants. But the main goal is to have a good time in Horn Lake, Miss."

Down the road in Southaven that seems to be the idea as well. The three-day Delta Country Jam relocated to Snowden Grove from Tunica and is expected to draw in large crowds with more than 20 country music acts from American Idol judge Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line and Dierks Bentley.

Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite said the financial impact of the relocation of the Delta Country Jam is hard to estimate at this point with this being the festival's first year in the city, so the attendance is hard to estimate in advance of it happening. But Mayor Musselwhite said it was a good thing.

Mayor Musselwhite also said the Delta Country Jam will bring new consumers to Southaven and that it would also be great for the restaurants in his city as country music fans descend on the area for the holiday weekend.
