MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) - The Governors Inn and Suites, closed since May 14 after being accused of being a center for drug trafficking, prostitution and other crimes, reopened Wednesday with a stronger commitment to fight criminal activity at their business.

Ricky E. Wilkins Law Firm represented the hotel, located at 2490 Mt. Moriah Rd., in Shelby County Environmental Court Judge Larry Potter's courtroom Monday.

The hotel, Millbranch Food and Grocery, and the B'Well Express on Delano were also closed by Memphis Police and the Shelby County District Attorney's Office in the wake of a citywide crackdown on drug dealing .

"We are committed to work even harder at preventing crime," Jenny Zhu, general manager of the Governors Inn & Suites said. "The safety of our guests and staff is a top priority for us. We have a loyal customer base, and we want to continue good service in a safe environment. We already have surveillance cameras and Central Protection Agency to patrol our property. Management will have a zero tolerance for weapons, drugs, and criminal activity."

The hotel has been opened for a year and six months. The owner moved to Memphis from California to invest in properties and to create jobs. The Governors Inn, which rents space to two churches, has over 200 rooms and some of them are currently undergoing renovation.

Since reopening, the owner has embraced the "Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. American Dream Team Neighborhood Watch." The neighborhood watch group is designed to empower people to achieve personal and community responsibility. The mission is to resurrect model neighborhoods across the city of Memphis in honor of Dr. King's life, legacy, and dream. The 18x24 yard signs are visible throughout the premises of the hotel with a photo of Dr. King and the Memphis skyline.

"We want our guests and this community to know that we are watching out for this neighborhood, and we want them to do the same," Zhu said.
