NORTH MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) - Charressa Noel of North Memphis is facing criminal charges of child abuse and neglect after someone saw her hit an 8-year old boy in the eye with a broom handle after he tried to get food out of the fridge.

The boy told police had had not eaten all day.

The 43-year-old is also accused of locking the boy in his room and giving him sleep medication during the day. She's listed as the child's guardian, but Noel couldn't provide police with any paperwork requiring custody.

Her bond was set at $2,500. She's expected to make her first appearance in Shelby County General Sessions Court May 27 at 8:30 a.m.
