A Whitehaven mother was forced to watch someone drive away with her two children after she was stabbed at around midnight Tuesday in the 500 block of Pleasant.

Hours later the first stabbing suspect, Derric Fifer, walked up to FOX13 Good Morning Memphis' camera and cleared his name live on GMM.

It seems to have worked too because soon after Memphis Police let us know that Fifer was no longer a suspect.

Fifer said he do anything and as a matter of fact he said he had been asleep when the 22-year-old woman was stabbed and her car stolen with her 11-month-old girl and three-year-old boy inside.

Fifer said his mother, saw his name on the news and asked him, "What's going on?"

"She told me, 'What did I do last night? Boy you did this! Boy you did that?,'" Fifer in an exclusive interview with FOX13 News GMM. "So I know I didn't do nothing. So I put on my shoes."

Fifer put on his shoes and came right up to where I was going live and asked to clear his name.

"I ain't fixing to stab no kids," Fifer said. "I just got out of prison. I love my life."

Just before midnight police were dispatched to Pleasant on a carjacking and stabbing call. Officers found a 22-year-old with multiple stab wounds and took her to Regional One in non-critical condition. A [preliminary investigation revealed the victim was carjacked and stabbed by an unknown male. The suspect sped away in the victim’s white 2000 Cadillac Escalade.

Officers located the three-year-old victim at approximately 12:07 a.m., standing on the corner of Holmes and Hillbrook. The child was not injured. About an hour later, officers spotted the carjacked vehicle at Summerwood and Gill. The suspect bailed from the vehicle and was not apprehended. Officers checked the vehicle and the 11-month-old victim was not inside.

Around 3:09 a.m., officers received additional information from an MPD dispatcher regarding the whereabouts of the baby. The 11-month-old victim was located hidden in bushes in Polly Williams Park. The child had no visible injuries, but was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for precautionary measures.

"I guess I'm going to wait til they come get me," Fifer said. "I ain't fixin to run from them. I ain't fixin to run or nothing."

Soon after my interview officers in 10 police cruisers sped up on the scene. They hopped out, some brandishing guns and some with batons.

After about 10 minutes of searching for the man, who was initially identified as Fifer, one of the officers walked up to the FOX!3 Good Morning Memphis crew and let us know they were leaving because they got a call from a lieutenant telling them Fifer is now not a suspect.

"If he's not it, then why the guns?," questioned Camilla Taylor, neighbor.

After a busy morning, Fifer's name is clear. Police are still looking for the person who stabbed the woman and drove off in her car.

"The Lord will make a way," Taylor said. "He'll show who. It will come out."

The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5-foot-6 in height, with a medium build and wearing a black bandana around his face.
