MARICOPA, Ariz. - Authorities in Maricopa say officers responded to a 911 call in the 40000 block of West Cydnee Drive, reporting a female was attempting to commit suicide and was dying.

Police say the caller reported Miguel Daniel Tapia had come to his house, telling him to "call 911 his mother was dying."

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 43-year-old Holly Berry dead in the backyard with injuries to her face, abdomen and arms.  There was blood in the kitchen area leading to the backyard.  Authorities say they observed a wet tile floor which appeared to have been recently washed.

Tapia allegedly told officers that Berry "got stupid" and they had pushed each other until she fell and stopped talking.

Police say Tapia later admitted to blacking out and getting violent when he gets drunk. The two were also reportedly in sexual relationship.

According to the police report, Tapia told officers he "blew breaths into her mouth for one to two hours before attempting to get help."

Tapia was booked on charges of second degree murder, aggravated assault and tampering with physical evidence.

A spokesman said police don't know whether Tapia has an attorney.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
