EAST MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -   A Memphis judge ordered Jerry Nance to be held on $100,000 bond.

Nance is a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard. He appeared in court Monday morning on child pornography charges.

Police say Nance had sexually explicit images of children on his home computer.

MPD started investigating him a couple weeks ago, and say, a couple days ago, he admitted to downloading child porn images.

Police say they found more than 100 images on his phone and computer.

According to Lt. Col. Tim Powell, National Guard spokesman, Nance has been with them for some time and was deployed twice with his unit.

He goes on to say that everyone at state headquarters has been made aware of his pending court case, he has been flagged and it’s been noted in his records. They will be monitoring the court case and disposition.

“If he is convicted, he will be removed because you cannot have a conviction on your record and be guardsmen,” said Powell.  “Any restrictions on his service are up to his local commander.”

Nance faces anywhere between 8 to 30 years in prison if he's found guilty.

Nance's lawyer, Leslie Ballin, tells FOX13 Nance entered a plea of not guilty in court Monday and will ask that his bond be lowered.

“We understand the seriousness of the charges, but Mr. Nance is a veteran, he's served our country well, he's not a flight risk, we think $100,000 bond is a little bit high," Ballin said.

Nance's next court appearance is May 27th.
