Weekend closures at two South Loop CTA stations for rehab, track work

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Two South Loop CTA train stations will be closed this weekend as crews work to rehabilitate an underground station and repair tracks.

The Harrison Red Line Station will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday as CTA crews will work to build two main entrance canopies, waterproof the station to reduce water pooling, install new granite flooring and lighting and repair stairways, according to a statement from the CTA.

To board the Red Line during the closure, the CTA recommends customers use the Jackson or Roosevelt stations, which are both within a half mile of Harrison on State Street.

When the station reopens Monday, the Polk Street entrance will remain closed until May 26 as crews perform “deeper structural work” on the south end of the station, according to the statement.

This closure will be the second of five weekends, with the next scheduled for May 30 through June 2, according to the CTA.

The Orange Line will also not operate between the Roosevelt and Halsted stations this weekend. Free shuttle buses will take passengers between stations from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday while crews rehabilitate the 18th Street Connector track, according to the CTA. Customers are advised to allow 15 minutes of travel time.

Remaining work is scheduled for May 23 through May 26 and May 30 through June 2, the CTA said.
