Police: Tip about missing boy does not appear to be good lead

AURORA, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

Police are investigating a tip about a little boy missing since 2011. A woman from the far northern tip of Illinois said she saw the boy.

The Rockton woman contacted police after they issued an age-progression photo of Timmothy Pitzen, who was 6-years-old when he went missing, Aurora town spokesman Dan Ferelli said.

Pitzen went missing after his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, took him on a trip through northern Illinois and Wisconsin on May 11, 2011, Ferelli said. She was later found dead from an apparent suicide in a motel room in Rockford.

Ferelli said the woman said she’d seen the boy at a garage sale in Rockton, which is about four miles south of the Wisconsin border. Police emailed her video clips of earlier this week and asked her to confirm if the boy in them was the same person she saw. She has not responded as of late Thursday, Ferelli said .

Friday morning, Ferelli told FOX 32 News the tip does not appear to be "a good lead." He says the mannerisms the woman described the little boy making appear to be opposite of Pitzen's behaviors. However, police say they will continue to follow the lead until it is exhausted.

The woman has not responded to police as of Friday morning.

Police say the tip is one of “dozens” Aurora police have received about the boy from all over the country since he went missing three years ago.
