Weekend temperatures to heat up across Arizona

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) - From Flagstaff to Tucson, much of Arizona is expected to heat up this weekend.

The National Weather Service says a warm high pressure system crossing into the state Friday is making for drier, warmer weather.

Flagstaff is poised to reach 78 degrees, which would be the hottest day for the city this year.

Meteorologists say the city normally is about 10 degrees cooler around this time in May.

Meanwhile, Tucson is expected to hover around 99 Friday through Sunday.

Phoenix is predicted to hit 104 on Friday, 103 on Saturday and then dropping to 101 on Sunday.

The Arizona Department of Health Services is advising residents to stay hydrated and plan outdoor activities accordingly.

The agency says nearly 140 people statewide died last year due to heat-related causes.
