Dad takes daughter: Kidnapping or custody dispute?

(WJBK) - Crystal Davis says her 14-year-old daughter wasn't at school April 16 when her stepfather went to pick her up. The family called the girl's father and says he admitted to taking the girl from school and that he was not bringing her home.

Davis tried to file a police report but was told this was a civil matter.

She eventually filed a report and then went to the prosecutor's office, as she felt police were not resolving her issue. The prosecutor she spoke told Davis this wasn't a civil matter, but rather a criminal one. She was told it appears to be a parental kidnapping since she Davis has sole legal custody of her daughter.

David Mack, the girl's father, is a convicted felon who owes nearly $10,000 dollars in child support.

Detroit Police Sgt. Mike Woody tells FOX 2's Amy Lange authorities have been working this case from the beginning and continue to do so. He says they will move the case forward and make sure the girl is returned home.

The teen is now reunited with her mother and stepfather. 

FOX 2's Amy Lange explains what was complicating and delaying the process. She reports a CPS worker is said to have been making false claims to police and the daughter's school to keep the girl with her father, who is a friend of the CPS worker.
