More police deployed in Trenton to stem violence

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - State officials say they're putting more boots on the ground to stem the violence in New Jersey's capital city.

Acting Attorney General John Hoffman on Wednesday announced a show of force in Trenton as summer approaches. The action comes days after a 9-year-old girl was wounded in the crossfire and a recent shooting that left three wounded outside a church during the funeral of a gang member.

The number of state troopers and other law enforcement being deployed will double the amount who took to the streets in mid-August. Shootings dropped by half in the two months after that initiative began in 2013, in which there were 37 homicides in Trenton.

Three units will target high-crime areas in Trenton and a squad will seek to arrest individuals with outstanding warrants.

For decades, making some quick cash was the main drive behind so many who took the ride down the parkway to Atlantic City. But with so much to choose from nowadays, it looks like Atlantic City is in a lot of trouble.
