MIDTOWN MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) - It was just a few months ago that Graceland was picked by USA Today voters as the number one tourist attraction in the country, followed closely by the National Civil Rights Museum, and Beale Street as the most iconic street in America.

Now the Memphis Zoo is up for the Best US Zoo in the 10 Best poll now being conducted online.

The Memphis Zoo has been considered one of the best in the country over the past several years but now the zoo can be officially number one.

"Oh, definitely, this kind of national recognition is just a great thing for Memphis as a city and just for our zoo we're a fairly small zoo compared to others out there," said Abbey Dane, Memphis Zoo Director of Marketing and Communications.

"To be in this kind of contest is really exciting for us and we have a great chance for winning if people get out there and vote."

You got to believe most people that come to the Zoo in the rain got to already believe this is the number one zoo in the country. I mean, the zoo in the rain and yet there they are ... in the rain.

"It says you can only vote once per day but if you can keep voting, go for it," Dane said. "It's until May 19 so we've got just under a week left. This is kind of like the fourth quarter. Time to get as many times for Memphis as you can."

It seems not everyone who visited the zoo in the rain were happy campers.
