Escaping a locked room by solving a mystery

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Escape the Room is more than a game. It's a challenge. And it is challenging at times. The concept is simple: You enter a room where you are locked in with a group of people and you have an hour to solve the clues that will lead to your escape.

Clue Master Victor Blake quit his job in finance to create Escape the Room, which is inspired by iPad the Room and the Room 2. The Midtown Manhattan activity is now one of TripAdvisor's top 20 New York City attractions. Tickets cost $28. There are three different games to choose from. Victor says more are in the works.

Sherlock Homes came to mind when a Fox 5 coworker and I joined five new friends who escaped their own offices located in the same building. Together, we became a team of detectives in "The Home," a Victorian-themed mystery adventure.

A countdown clock keeps your heart rate up, while you search and solve like super sleuths. Victor is always watching, giving clues to help you along. Unfortunately for my team and I, we were so close but we didn't win, making us losers. But we still had a great time.

Archeologists say they've solved a mystery that started with the rebuilding at ground zero. During the excavation at the World Trade Center Site, workers uncovered part of an old ship. No one knew where it came from. Now after years of study, researchers believe the sloop dates back to 1773, built from wood harvested from Pennsylvania, the same kind used to build Independence Hall.

"A mixed bag": That's how the Straphangers Campaign characterizes New York City subways; some good parts and some bad. For example, the C train breaks down most often, not surprising since the line has 50-year-old cars. But C trains were also the cleanest in the transit system.Straphangers said the worst subway trains were the IRT's No. 2.
