FERNDALE, Mich. (WJBK) - Ferndale Police have arrested two men and are searching for a third suspect said to have assaulted a classmate at their high school in Ferndale.

Police say three students at Taft Digital Learning Center walked into a classroom in progress, ignoring warnings by a staff member. The students then went to a 16-year-old student and demanded he give them a cell phone.

The three students then beat the victim until he was unconscious, then ran away from the school.

Ferndale Lt. Bill Wilson tells FOX 2's Amy Lange they ducked into a nearby liquor store, where police found two of the three suspects.

Brothers Tre Barber, 20, and Tyler Barber, 19, were taken into custody. Police are still looking for the third suspect, Jashiem Ross, 18.

The 16-year-old student was hospitalized for his injuries and is recovering.

The suspects appear to have been attempting to retrieve a phone that they say was stolen earlier in the week. They say the victim is the one that stole the phone.

Wilson says the phone was never reported stolen and no school officials were contacted for assistance retrieving the phone.

The brothers' father, Ray Barber, says, however, they did tell a teacher and the principal.

Police say, regardless of the fact that the three suspects may have been trying to recover a stolen phone, their actions are not justified. The brothers have been arraigned on the felony charge of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm.

The three suspects have also been suspended for 10 days with a recommendation for expulsion, in keeping with the district's zero-tolerance policy.

If you know of Ross' whereabouts contact the police department at (248) 541-3650 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

A judge still must hold a trial to determine if Detroit's overall bankruptcy plan is fair and feasible, but support from retirees is vital.
