REDFORD, Mich. (WJBK) - Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman after stopping to help her with car trouble.

The suspect stopped to help a woman who had run out of gas near Seven Mile and Beech Daly roads around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the man appeared as a Good Samaritan at first, and drove the woman to a gas station to fill up a canister of gas. He then took her back to her vehicle.

The man followed her, however, when she drove off. When she had car troubles again, police say he stopped and sexually assaulted her.

"He came up behind her, put a gun to head and neck area, and that's when he took her clothes off and assaulted her sexually on the side of the road," says Redford Det. Daniel Bailey.

Police say the suspect's vehicle was missing a rear hub cap. The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with a stocky build.

If you have any information that could help Redford police contact their police department.
