Two Kittens Survive After Being Packed In A Box And Shipped Across California

Posted: Updated:

Two kittens were accidentally packed into a box and shipped from Hollywood, California to San Diego.

They say a cat has 9 lives but in this case, both brother and sister are lucky to be alive after traveling more than a hundred miles from Hollywood to San Diego in the unlikeliest of places : in a Cox Communications truck in a box full of fiberglass.

"Mom probably had the babies, found the cable equipment to be a very nice, warm, safe spot to put them, left them there while she went to go hunt," explains Humane Society's Kitten Nursery Manager, Jenny Bonomini.

The pair; now known as Mouse and Wi-Fi arrived at a Cox Communications warehouse in Chula Vista earlier this month.

The Cox employee who made the discovery quickly contacted his relative who works at the San Diego Humane Society.

"They didn't have their eyes open. They had their umbilical cords attached. They hadn't eaten since they were shipped."

Bonomini says she immediately gave them a bottle and hunger forced them to latch on immediately. At that time, they were just two to three days old.

Two weeks later they are about 200 grams each eating every two to three hours.

"Right now they live in a little cubby with a heating pad and a fuzzy blanket," says Bonomini.

Nurses say the warmth from the box they traveled in, and the quick thinking of the cox employee likely saved Mouse and Wi-Fi.

"Right now they're pretty reliant on us just giving them love and nutrition but in about a week everything changes."
