Police: Teen Tased During Alleged Shoplifting Incident

UPPER DARBY, Pa. -

Upper Darby Police are investigating an alleged shoplifting incident where a teen was Tased.

Officers arrested 42-year old You Yang, owner of Dollar World, after they reviewed the store's surveillance system. The video shows the teen Tased had his hands up and was trying to back away when he was struck.

Police say one of the boys picked up an item at the front of the store and, as the boys walked around, he later puts the item down on a different shelf. That's when Yang thought the teen had shoplifted and he retrieved a Taser from behind the counter, according to police.

Yang pointed the Taser toward the 14-year-old's face as the teen backs away, he eventually fired the Taser, striking him in the upper left arm, and chased him in and out of the aisles.

The two teenagers then immediately fled from the store.

Officers later found a fully loaded 9 mm, which Yang had a concealed-carry permit, along with a 12-gauge shotgun. Authorities confiscated both guns and the Taser.

After running from the store, the boys went to a friend's house nearby, where they called 911. They then met with police near the scene

Police charged Yang with simple assault, possessing instruments of a crime and related offenses for Tasing the youth.
