CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Superintendent Garry F. McCarthy addressed the public at 9:30 a.m. Friday regarding Operation Impact.

Friday, the mayor announced the latest update and strategy to the program.

The mayor says he would like more officers to hit the streets in an effort to curb violence in the city.

Superintendent Garry F. McCarthy announced he is adding bikes to the foot patrols that are already assigned to some of the city's most violent areas. McCarthy said putting officers on the street has made a huge difference in the target areas. He says adding bikes to that group will add another level of mobility.

From Thursday to Friday morning alone, eight people were shot across the city. One of the shooting victims was a 12-year-old boy.
