CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago has more exciting park news.

Mayor Emanuel and the Chicago Park District offered a sneak peek into the revitalization of Jackson Park that will respect, preserve and renew the character of the landscape as designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. and his firm after the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition.

One of the first steps is the creation of the Garden of the Phoenix, complete with 170 cherry blossom trees, to celebrate the relationship between Japan and Chicago.

In addition, Japanese landscape architects will be visiting the garden in the fall of 2014 to design additional garden enhancements.

Through the Mayor's vision for the park, visitors will be able to connect with the past while discovering the wonders of science, nature and humanity in an inspiring historic urban landscape.
