Minnie Driver Quits Twitter Over Bikini Pic Comments

Posted: Updated:

Bullying on social media has been around for years now. And it doesn't matter if you're a kid or an adult.

Just last week, actress Minnie Driver said she was quitting the "Twitterverse" after rude comments were posted about a photograph of her in a bikini.

Driver posted from her handle @driverminnie, "God some people are horrible: you try being photographed when you don't know it's happening, when you're on holiday with your kids."

She added, "I'm out of this Twittersphere for a while. It's too mean sometimes, about your body, about your soul. Not worth it."

What kind of message does this send? Social media expert J.J. Cannon joined "Good Day Philadelphia" to talk about that Monday morning.

And here are some statistics we found from recent surveys about ongoing bullying:

  1. Nearly 43 percent of kids have been bullied online
  2. 81 percent of young people think bullying online is easier to get away with
  3. 58 percent of kids admit someone has said hurtful things to them online
