Augusta-area airports brace for tournament traffic

Posted: Updated:

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Augusta area airport officials say they're preparing for a spike in passengers during the Masters Tournament.

Augusta Regional Airport spokeswoman Lauren Smith tells the Augusta Chronicle the airport is anticipating extra Transportation Security Administration and other law enforcement officials to deal with an anticipated 10,000 additional passengers during the tournament.

Some of the region's smaller airports are also bracing for the tournament tourism rush.

Augusta Aviation operates Daniel Field, which is asking pilots to use an online booking system to reserve a landing time to eliminate double booking and crowded parking lots.

Augusta Aviation spokeswoman Becky Shealy says Masters Tournament week is the only time Daniel Field has an FAA-controlled air traffic controller.
