LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - -

A tornado watch is in effect for nearly all of Arkansas as a potent storm system heads into the state.

The tornado watch is in effect until 5 p.m. Thursday for much of Arkansas, including the Little Rock area.

The storms began moving into the western Arkansas by midmorning Thursday. A tornado warning was issued for Scott County, but the National Weather Service let the warning expire at 10 a.m. because the storm had weakened.

Severe weather is expected throughout the day in Arkansas, with damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes possible.
