DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A federal grand jury in Downtown Memphis added eight more charges Wednesday against former Tennessee Army National Guard recruiter Amos Patton.

The 42-year-old is accused of shooting four of his superiors Oct. 24, 2013, at the National Guard Armory in Millington.

A grand jury initially returned a nine-count indictment against Patton.

According to the U.S. District Court in Memphis, charges one through 12 each carry 20 years in federal prison, or three years supervised released, and $250,000 in fines. Counts 13 through 16 each carry 10 years in federal prison, $250,000 in fines, no more than three years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $100.

The 17th charge against Patton includes 10 years in federal prison, no more than $250,000 in fines, three years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $100.

During a hearing in January in federal court, an FBI agent said Patton told a fellow soldier he would start shooting if he was fired from his job.
 
Special Agent Matthew Ross, who testified Jan. 17 in a detention hearing for Patton, said Patton was being disciplined after an investigation into sexual assault claims by a female soldier when he opened fire inside a guard armory on Oct. 24.

Magistrate Judge Charmaine Claxton denied bond for Patton, who has pleaded not guilty.

According to the federal grand jury indictment Patton tried to kill four of his superiors at the Millington National Guard Armory. Three soldiers were shot and all of them are recovering from their injuries.

The federal indictment reveals a fourth man was also targeted.

 Patton was being relieved of duty at the Millington armory Oct. 24. Investigators say he went to his car, got a Glock 9mm handgun, returned to the armory, and started shooting.

According to court documents soldiers were able to take Patton out and hold him until Millington Police officers arrived.

The indictment charges Patton with four counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault and one count of using a firearm. He was informed of the charges in front of a federal judge.

Patton waived his right to a detention hearing and will stay in federal custody until his arraignment Nov. 13.

One of Patton's victims was in the courtroom and was ready to testify if the hearing went forward.
