SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Ask any question to physician and media mogul Dr. George Flinn, and the answer always seems to focus back on one issue - fixing health care.

Flinn has pulled a petition to run against U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander for the Republican nomination.

Will this single issue help Flinn grab the nomination over the popular incumbent and a crowded field if he does decide to run?

Only the voters will decide.

"We have got to fix health care," said Dr. Flinn, a former GOP candidate. "It's broken and we have to something about it."

In one statement you have heard why the radiologist wants to be Tennessee's next U.S. senator in Washington, D.C.

"I am running for the health care plan," Dr. Flinn said. "This health care that I have works. No one else seems to be standing up. Everyone else seems to have given up trying to make health care better for us."

Dr. Flinn has tried but failed twice to win a congressional race in two different districts. The most recent was two years when he lost badly to U.S. Congressman Steve Cohen (D-9th District). Dr. Flinn practically self funded his own campaign.

"Everything that has been an accomplishment has always had obstacles," he said. "Whatever they are I have the drive, I have the passion. I stick to it."

Dr. Flinn will need more than persistence if he files the paperwork to run. Sen. Alexander, a former governor, university president and a two-term incumbent has a strong base in the state.

Dr. Flinn joins a list of 11 challengers including fellow Republicans from Shelby County, but for Dr. Flinn the most important issue is health care.

Greg Coy: "Any other issue?"
Dr. Flinn: "No sir. This is it."
Greg Coy: "what about, let's say, what is happening in Crimea?"
Dr. Flinn: "We've got the problem here and if we don't fix this problem, the other problems don't make any difference."
Greg Coy: "What about common core standard?"
Dr. Flinn: "I believe once again we are getting off topic, and we need to focus on topic making sure health care is fixed first."

Dr. Flinn is still pondering with the idea of running for Sen. Alexander's seat in Washington, D.C. If he files the necessary paperwork, and if health care is the only issue that's important to you, he's your candidate.
