Suspect arrested in Dunwoody crime spree

Dunwoody Police have arrested a man accused of committing a series of crimes on Monday morning.

They called the man a "menace to society" and considered him very "dangerous" but he was taken off the streets on Monday night.

The saga began around 11 a.m. at the Walmart, located on the 4700 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road. According to police, store security alerted authorities that the suspect had stolen a television. He left the scene in a white Dodge Challenger.

Officers attempted to pursue the vehicle but authorities were unable to apprehend the suspect due to his travel at a "high rate of speed."

And that's when the pursuit took a dangerous turn. The suspect ran a red light at Ashford Dunwoody Road at Hammond Drive, collided with another vehicle and struck a light pole.

Authorities say a concerned citizen stopped at the accident to assist the suspect and that the suspect then carjacked that citizen and continued on his pursuit.

The suspect, who has been identified as 51-year-old Steven Jerome Jackson of Stone Mountain was last seen traveling on Ashford Dunwoody Road in a tan 2009 Dodge Caravan. The circumstances of his arrest are unknown at this time.

Jackson has been charged with Theft by Taking, Theft by Shoplifting and Hit and Run. He is currently incarcerated at the DeKalb County Jail.
