MIDTOWN MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Open enrollment for signing up for affordable health care will end at midnight but if you have had trouble signing up for Obamacare, they can take advantage of an extension making the new deadline April 15.

If you're having a problem signing up or getting good information about the affordable health care plan you can go to a couple of places to find help in the Mid-South -- Christ Community Health Services and the Church Health Center.

Don't be shy as plenty of people have already been in to get help understanding the process.

"We've been able to provide education and some type of assistance to over 4,000 individuals," said Amanda Chandler of Christ Community Health Service. "About 1,000 of those have actually gone through the entire process looking at the plans, selecting a plan and filling out the entire application."

Two staff members from Christ Community Health spent Monday day at the Church Health Center helping sign up folks. As it turns out getting online and learning about the plan is one thing, but selecting the right plan for each person seems to be the real head scratcher for most.

"I think one of the most confusing parts for individuals is picking the plan, trying to decide what will be best for their health care needs and for the needs of their family," Chandler said. "But we've been able to help people select the plans that benefit their lifestyle and health care needs."

Unfortunately there are still a lot of people who do not qualify for the affordable health care plan, which means the Church Health Center and Christ Community Health Services will still be in great demand.

"That's exactly true," Chandler said. "Christ Community is here for the individuals who have insurance and for those who do not have insurance. After 17 years we're not going anywhere. Either we know that we are still going to be a need to fill in Memphis. We're excited about those who will be able to get affordable insurance. But we will definitely be here for those who don't."

So what if you do not sign up? Well, you could be facing a maximum fine of $95 due next year with your taxes or 1 percent of your taxable income, whichever is greater. So that should move you into doing something and not just doing nothing.
