High school student attacked by girls, family blames school for not helping

TAYLOR, Mich. (WJBK) - A parent says her daughter was attacked by five other girls at school and ended up in the hospital with head injuries because no school authorities intervened. She also claims the principal may have known about the possibility of an attack.

Alexis Carter was punched, kicked, and beaten with a lock Monday morning at Truman High School in Taylor. She says four or five girls attacked her. Students recorded the ordeal on their cell phones.

She got a concussion and had to get 14 surgical staples to her head.
 
Her mother, Tequila Carter, is furious because she claims her daughter told a principal she was being bullied and feared this would happen.

"I talked to [the principal] probably two weeks before this happened. I told her that I'm having problems with a girl and I don't want to get in trouble," Alexis says.  

Alexis says the principal told her no action could be taken unless a fight started.

"I felt like that was a load of crap because she could have spoke with both girls. She could have called me in, she could've called the other girls' parents in," says Tequila.

Now all the girls are suspended indefinitely, including Alexis.

Tequila fears the suspension will harm Alexis' grades and college scholarship opportunities.

Taylor Public Schools said it takes all claims of bullying seriously and is investigating the fight.

Alexis says she threw the first punch when her bully approached her wanting to fight that day. She claims the girl is bigger and was determined to fight.

"I couldn't run, it was going to happen anyway. I would've got through it that day, then the next day when I got back to school it would have happened. If it wasn't that day it would have been the next day it was going to happen," says Alexis.

Alexis has to go before the school board, which will decide if she'll be expelled.

Her mother plans on pressing charges against the girls who beat up her daughter.
