Phoenix businessman accused of selling fake goods

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Phoenix businessman has been arrested for allegedly selling counterfeit merchandise including contact lenses.

Jewelry Unlimited also sells necklaces, watches, and nose rings, but police say many of the store's items are fake.

The Phoenix Police Business and Economic Stability Team busted the store Tuesday.

At the Desert Sky Mall location, police confiscated $560,000 worth of counterfeit merchandise in watches, purses and clothing along with prescription and novelty contact lenses.

Police say Jewelry Unlimited chain owner Masarof Hossain didn't have a license to sell contacts as a pharmacy.

They also say fake contacts can ruin people's eyes and cause everything from ulcers to blindness.

Police say Hossain is being held on suspicion of illegal control of an enterprise and counterfeit products.

It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
