Mario Frangoulis performs at Lincoln Center

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Mario Frangoulis, 46, is a jewel in Greece's crown. Voices like his are extremely rare, especially in Greece. He's been compared to iconic Italian tenors Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli. He calls Pavarotti one of heroes.

But singing in five different languages -- Italian, Spanish, English, French, and Greek -- puts Mario in a class all his own.

"Well my favorite language is Greek," he says. "I'm very proud of my Greek heritage."

Mario puts his money where his mouth is: 40 percent of the proceeds from this weekend's performance will go back to his home country.

"What we are doing with our art and our singing is giving a large amount of money to this organization to help these unfortunate families," Mario says.

The singer can barely walk a few feet in Greece or elsewhere in Europe for that matter without getting accosted by his adoring fans. His appeal is quickly spreading stateside, especially with the ladies.

"I do have some very hardcore female fans," he says.

Well, I made Mario's fans very jealous by singing with him, so I better sleep with one eye open.
