MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

The historic Tennessee Brewery Building has an expiration date. The realtor offering the building says if someone doesn't buy it, demolition is set for Aug. 1.

One group is stepping in, not to buy it, but hopefully to inspire others to do so.

Tennessee Brewery Untapped is a group bringing six weeks of attractions to the historic Tennessee Brewery. The hope is a potential buyer takes notice.

Built in 1890, the historic Tennessee Brewery sits on the river bluff. Over the last 15 years, it's become a target for graffiti and vandals. A demolition date has been set for August first if the building doesn't sell.

"I hope, like the rest of Memphis hopes, that demolition does not take place," said Kerry Hayes, who joined with some other concerned Memphians to form Tennessee Brewery Untapped.

For six weeks starting April 24, events and attractions will be hosted by the brewery.

"It's going to be a lot of different things every single day," Hayes said. "Beer gardens, cafe, live music, mobile retails, food trucks, art performances, anything we can think of that we can imagine inside the building."

Tens of thousands of people will be drawn to the riverfront for Memphis in May, so the goal is for maximum exposure for the building.

"Memphis in May is such a big draw I think given our proximity to the park and river front, it'd be a great opportunity for visitors and Memphians alike to come and do something new," Hayes said.

The 62,000 thousand square foot building is listed for $1.1 million. Its unique layout has made it a challenge for redeveloping into condos. Tennessee Brewery Untapped hopes to tap into people's imagination of what this building can be, says Hayes.

"If there's a way we can take pieces of the building, gradually start to activate it and start bringing people back to the site and start to consider are there ways we can make smaller components of it financially feasible to develop, then maybe we can do something with it long term," he said.
