Randolph reopened after falling ice reroutes traffic

Randolph Street has been reopened after ice falling from a building caused a road closure and rerouted traffic on the Near West Side for several hours Thursday afternoon.

West Randolph Street was closed between North Canal Street and North Wacker Drive about 4 p.m. as a "precautionary measure" because of falling ice, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic was rerouted.

The street has since been reopened to traffic, the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications said about 8:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported as a result of the falling ice, Zala said.
