National Day of Unplugging a cinch for some, challenge for others

Posted: Updated:

Saturday is the National Day of Unplugging -- a day to disconnect and unplug from cell phones and computers for 24 hours.

Some say they just won't be able to do it; others are already doing it and some say they'd have no problems with it.

Rene Gutierrez says he's not interested in flat lining his online connections. He could go maybe three hours without technology, he says, but that's it.

"My phone is like my best friend," he said. "Everything I do is with it and it's always by on me, and whenever it leaves my sight I'm like scared like where's it at."

But others say unplugging is no problem.

"Oh yeah, it's not that hard," said another teen, James Prager. "Just turn it off and honestly it makes life more enjoyable you're not checking your phone every second. I could do it so fast. It's so easy."

Alexandra Campbell has young children, but says her family often goes unplugged.

"We want them to know that relationships are more important than technology," she said.

David Brown and Ella Andrews feel that way, too -- they're in a special life program and haven't had phones or computers for two weeks.

"We all need time to ourselves at least a weekend," said Andrews.
