DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A 33-year-old North Memphis man has been indicted by a Shelby County grand jury on three felony counts of selling heroin within 1,000 feet of a school zone, District Attorney General Amy Weirich said Friday.

Teddy Reed was arrested in December at his home in the 1700 block of Brown after an investigation by agents with the West Tennessee Judicial Violent Crime & Drug Task Force.

After making controlled buys through an informant, agents armed with a search warrant for Reed's residence found digital scales commonly used by drug dealers, at least $3,212 in cash and more than 24 grams of heroin.

The grand jury on Thursday indicted Reed on three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school.

The District Attorney's Office said Reed's home is within 1,000 feet of Vollentine Elementary School, which increases the severity of the crime.

The DAG said Reed, who has seven prior drug-related arrests, is being held in the Shelby County jail on a bond of $1.5 million.
