LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -

There it was tucked inside two of Mark Schauer's campaign commercials…a blast from the past as the Democratic challenger tries every which way to beat incumbent Gov. Rick Snyder.

It worked for Jennifer Granholm.

It did not work for Virg Bernero.

It remains unclear if it will work for Mr. Schauer?

Democrats know that many of their supporters are not fond of seeing their jobs shipped off to a foreign land by corporations hoping to fatten their bottom line, so the D argument goes.

So when Gov. Granholm discovered Dick DeVos was creating jobs in China while laying off workers in Michigan, she could hardly wait to blast him for it.  She was relentless with the attacks.  She won.  He didn't.

Next it was Lansing Mayor Virg's Bernero turn to use the same gambit on the nerd from Ann Arbor.  "How could you Mr. Synder open an office in China?"" a despondent Mr. Bernero asked Rick Snyder during their first and last debate.

The Snyder team watching in the green room was caught off guard; it scrambled and managed to dodge the China bullet this time as the Bernero attack fizzled after a few days.

Now comes two pro-Schauer commercials suggesting that Mr. Snyder granted a "huge" tax break to businesses "even if they send jobs overseas."

The commercial leaves it to the viewers to connect the dots i.e. the governor indirectly helped businesses outsource jobs out of Michigan.

To be sure the one-liner is not the center piece of the Schauer campaign strategy but there it is and dollars to donuts it wouldn't be in there if they thought it was a loser of an issue.

So far the Snyder squad has not responded to any of this…so far.
