BATAVIA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Authorities said a west suburban factory could fully collapse after catching fire Wednesday night.

The fire started about 9:30 p.m. at a metal factory on the corner of 1st Street and Mallory Avenue in Batavia, Batavia Fire Department Chief Randy Diecke told reporters at the scene.

About 15 neighboring fire departments were at the scene assisting, Deicke said.

Aerial ladders were set up on all four corners of the building to fight the fire, which had fully set ablaze both floors of the two-story factory, Diecke said.

"We expect the building to collapse--or at least one floor to collapse—at some time," Diecke said.

No one was injured or inside the factory when it caught fire, Diecke said.

Firefighters were still on scene at 1 a.m., the fire department said.

The cause is still unknown as Batavia Fire Department investigates.
