GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Shelby County parents will have to pay tuition if they want their children to remain at Germantown Municipal Schools next fall.

Monday evening the municipal school board voted to charge a small fee for non-residents to attend the five schools. The district will charge $200 per child, per year. There is a family cap of $500 a year.

School board members say the new fee will affect 1,000 Collierville and 225 Cordova families whose children attend Houston High, Houston Middle and Dogwood Elementary.

But the resolution does allow for waivers for children on the free and reduced-price lunch program.
