TUNICA COUNTY, Miss. (FOX13) -

Crews are working overtime in Tunica County to get the power back on. We're told several businesses and casinos were without power all day. Emergency crews say with the wind and sleet, it was basically a white out last night. The wind was so strong, it knocked down several power lines. Crews have been working all day to get power to the rest of the county. They have been sitting in the dark for most of the day.

Scott Cripps was one of many staying at the Gold Strike this morning. He says, "There's no power except for emergency power. So, there are elevators, and there's lighting in the corridors. Up until the power went out, the hotel was really great this morning. They supplied us with breakfast and tried to make everyone as comfortable as possible. But, I guess they announced the generators were running low so they needed to evacuate the hotel. So, they just basically said, you're out."

Windows of businesses all over Tunica County are dark too. Car after car is driving through desolate gas stations in search of fuel. But, there's no power. So, you probably won't get gas or anything like that right now. With traffic lights out on nearly every road, emergency crews have been out more than 15 hours and counting. They are trying to keep the roads clear and get the power back on.

Joe Hawkins, Road Manager in Tunica County says, "We've been trying to prevent the roads from freezing, but, last night it was unbelievable. The temperature dropped so quickly, even with the amount of manpower we had, we just couldn't handle it. Working overnight, with all hands on deck, to keep ice off the roads and by the afternoon, it was mostly clear for drivers to get around. We're just not equipped for this type of weather. But, we use what we have, the methods we have, and we get it done.

Not everyone is without power. A few businesses are open. But, many store windows are dark today as these crews continue to work and get the lights back on. Stay with FOX13 for updates.
