As rain pounds down all over the Mid-South, Bill Wickham was one of many bracing for the storm.

"No doubt it'll be pretty bad once it gets below freezing," Wickham said, "I'm picking up gasoline for the winter storm that's about to hit."

Wickham picked up 20 gallons of gas, which was enough to keep the lights on for about a day and a half in case the power goes out.

"I try not to because I have the backup generator but when power goes out, I think it's prudent especially for a longer power outage, to have backup power," Wickham said.

Officials prepping for the storm warn down power lines, trees, and limbs could block roads.

"I want people to understand with the weight of this ice you're going to have tree limbs hanging low that are usually not there," Desoto County EMA Director Bob Story said.

Emergency crews say the best option is just to stay home until this is over.

"The caution I have for them is stay at home," Desoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco said, "Work will be there Tuesday."

"There's just not a lot you can do with ice when it's coming down, and you're going to have to be very careful in the morning, we're going to fight it as quickly as we can," Desoto County Roads Manager Andy Swims said.

"It's  one of those things you're at Mother Nature's mercy you can just plan for it, prepare for it, hopefully we can come out of it OK," Story said.
