VIDEO: First Medical Marijuana Commercial Airing On TV Networks

Posted: Updated:

A company claims its medical marijuana commercial is the first to make a debut on national television, and it's going viral on YouTube.

The commercial was produced and uploaded by MarijuanaDoctors, a group that works to provide healing to patients with "documented medical conditions."

MarijuanaDoctors.com offers a variety of resources to those seeking the controversial treatment. Their mission statement reads, "We do not promote the casual or recreational use of marijuana or any other prescription medication. We condone only the use of marijuana as a medication for recognized ailments in accordance with state law, as we believe it is a proven treatment for many medical conditions."

The ad presents itself as part parody and part public service announcement, featuring a man "dealing" sushi on the street. The overall message suggests that it's safer to get marijuana legally than it is to buy it from dealers.

The company says the commercial is the first of its kind and is, not surprisingly, receiving some controversial backlash, goofy commentary and excited praise.

"So your doctor is now your dealer... but then what's new? lol," writes Sean Davis.

Another commenter, Kayla Blackmon, wrote "Were they high when they came up with this commercial?"

One enthusiastic New Jersey resident, Bill Dunn, said, "What a awesome commercial can't wait to see it on TV here in Trenton NJ soon!!!!"

Medical Marijuana is only legal in certain states under specific conditions, so the commercial probably won't be seen nationwide. MarijuanaDoctors.com lists all 20 states and the District of Columbia on their website and even offers searching tools to help find medical marijuana "caregivers."

The group's YouTube channel has a variety of other videos with topics ranging from how to obtain licenses in various states to differentiating between medical marijuana strains.

The ad was uploaded to YouTube on Feb. 26 and has proclaimed itself as the first of its kind.

MarijuanaDoctors said in a news release issued March 3 that the commercial will be on the COMCAST system, and the networks that will air the commercial include: A&E, AMC, FOX, CNBC, CNN, Comedy Central, Bravo, Discovery, ESPN, FX, Food Network, HGTV, History and several others.
