A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Shelby County by the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say freezing rain will move into the area tomorrow afternoon.  Up to three quarters of an inch of ice may accumulate along with two inches of snow.

"Our emergency services coordinators are on alert.  Director Bob Nations and his staff at the Shelby County Office of Preparedness are staying in contact with the National Weather Service and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency," said Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Ice will likely break tree limbs and could lead to power outages if power lines snap. "We could have very dangerous driving conditions tomorrow evening and especially at rush-hour Monday morning.  Everyone needs to keep a close check on the weather.  We don't want people stranded on ice-covered roads," said Director Nations.

Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies will relay road conditions to the Shelby County Office of Preparedness.

Additionally, Shelby County Public Works crews are prepared. "Our salt and cinder trucks are loaded and ready to respond," said Shelby County Public Works Director Tom Needham.
