MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

The Silent Praising Hands Choir at Kirby Woods Baptist Church has a special performance this weekend, they'll be singing the National Anthem at the Grizzlies game Saturday night.

But there's also something very special about their members, many of them are deaf.

"It gives us a chance to show what deaf people can do," Deaf Ministries Interim Director Ben Cox said.

For more than 30 years, the members of silent praising hands have been sharing their love of music with fellow church members, dazzling audiences every Sunday with their dedication to music.

"We have a wonderful deaf ministry here at Kirby West Baptist Church," Cox said, "Some people think it's kind of strange that deaf people would actually sing, but they do."

The choir includes members young and old, hearing and hard of hearing.

"They want to be able to express that joy in front of many people to see that deaf people can do things when they might think they couldn't," Cox said.

Now the choir is prepping for their biggest performance yet, taking the stage in front of thousands at the FedEx Forum Saturday.

"It'll be an awesome experience in front of many people in the crowd, we're excited about it," Choir Member Ben Cox, Jr. said.

"I'm so excited about it, and so happy for the honor to come and sing, we're very excited," Choir Member Shelia Salemi added. "I can't wait to see the basketball players too."

And they're proving you don't have to hear the music to feel it.

"It gives them a chance to show to the world that deaf people are a part of life, that they are wanting to sing, that they do have joy in their heart," Cox said.

The Kirby Woods Baptist Church has several deaf members, they even have services every Sunday solely in sign language.

The choir will perform before the Grizzlies-Cavaliers game at the FedExForum Saturday night at 8 p.m.
