CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Students across Illinois are preparing to take the Illinois Standard Achievement Test next week. A coalition of Chicago Public Schools parent groups is calling for students to skip the ISAT.

The ISAT is given to Illinois students every year. This year's test is scheduled to start next week, and lasts for two weeks.

But this group of parents say the classroom time spent preparing for the standardized test would be better spent actually learning new material, instead of learning how to take the ISAT well.

The protesting parents of Drummond Thomas Montessori School students in Bucktown are calling for the boycott.

The tests serve as a measure for teacher performance from year to year. That may be one reason many schools in the state continue to have students take the annual exam.

But CPS will switch its standardized test system next year. So some parents fail to see the value of this year's test.
