MEMPHIS, Tenn. -

Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph and MIFA announced Monday the creation of the Zach Randolph Community Assistance Fund, established to provide monies, goods and services to underserved populations in Memphis and the Mid-South area.

The partnership is founded in shared goals: Randolph is committed to making a deep and meaningful impact in the lives of families in need, and MIFA has the infrastructure, the reach and the reputation to help Randolph maximize his community contributions. Amounts distributed out of the Zach Randolph Fund will go to non-profits, schools and community centers chosen by Randolph himself.

"It's time I do this. It's important to help single-parent families and families in need, because I was one of them, and I can relate to it," says Randolph.

Monday afternoon Randolph made his first official contribution from the fund - a $20,000 donation to the MIFA Emergency Services Plus-1 program. That money will be used to cover the cost of utility payments for 100 households on the verge of service disruption in the Memphis-area.

Plus-1 is a program administered by MIFA to pay utility services for people in need. MLGW customers fund the program through one-time donations or by adding a dollar or more to their utility bill each month. Since its inception in 1982, Plus-1 has provided millions of dollars in assistance to families in crisis in Memphis and Shelby County.

This is the fourth-consecutive year that Zach has contributed to the Plus-1 program. "People should not have to decide between paying the heating bill and buying food, paying rent or paying for gas. I'm lucky to be able to help with some of those things", said Randolph.

Sally Jones Heinz, MIFA Executive Director agrees and applauds Randolph's generosity. "His interest in supporting families in need in our community aligns with MIFA's mission to support this vulnerable population. We are thrilled to grow and strengthen our partnership with him through the Zach Randolph Community Assistance Fund."

Founded in 1968, MIFA (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association) is a unique organization designed to support the independence of vulnerable seniors and families in crisis through high-impact programs. Through thousands of volunteers and donors, like Randolph, MIFA unites the community through service.
