OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (FOX13) -

We have tax free shopping days for school supplies but now lawmakers in the Mississippi House have a Bill that has just come out of committee that will set up a tax free Holiday for Sportsman and gun owners.

"It is the State saying we are going to give you a break, because it's the Second Amendment, and it's important and I think that is the biggest thing it does," says Dana Criswell with Mississippi Gun News.

"Well it's about time we got some pro-gun bills rolling," said Jeff Duncan of the Gun Exchange in Olive Branch.

Mississippi House Bill 1539 would set up something known as the Annual Second Amendment Holiday.

"So, they would, much like the tax holiday for school supplies, be in support of citizens purchasing firearms, ammunition or anything that relates to a gun. This would be a tax free weekend," said Criswell.

If House Bill 1539 fails it wouldn't be a big deal; the idea of a tax free shopping weekend for gun shoppers has more shots at passing.

"There have been two bills in the House, House Bill 1404 and House Bill 1539. One in the Senate, Senate Bill 2425, is called a Sportsman's Bill Tax Holiday, which is the same thing," said Criswell.

House Bill 1539 also allows for the tax free purchase of hunting gear. All of the bills put the gun tax free shopping holiday on the first weekend in September.

"It speaks to the support of the second amendment from the residents of Mississippi," said Jeff Duncan.
