Nintendo's Girl-Oriented YouTube Channel Offends Some

Posted: Updated:

Some controversy is brewing after a gaming giant decides to form an online community for girls.

Nintendo UK debuted a new YouTube channel for female gamers called "Nintendo Girls Club."

While the company says they are trying to combat gender stereotypes, others are criticizing Nintendo for promoting sexism.

The videos feature a blond British actress in a very frilly bedroom talking about style, home decoration and makeover games. Almost every video on the channel has more dislikes than likes.

Users on Reddit have also attacked the channel.

"What's... the point of that? It's just gonna be a Nintendo news channel but with more pink? Is this really necessary? I understand and appreciate Nintendo trying to appeal more to female gamers lately but this is just pointless," said Redditor NightOwl58

While video-gaming has been thought of as a traditionally male-dominated past-time/sport, reports in 2013 have found that 45% of all game players, and 46% of most frequent purchasers of games, are female.
