Winter weather begins to take a psychological toll on Chicago

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Six more inches of snow fell on the Chicago area Monday, prompting FOX 32 to take a look at both sides of Chicago's winter.

Wait; there are two sides to this?

Apparently so.

FOX 32 did find some people who are loving this weather.

However, for many of us, it's just an endless misery of cold, snow, gray and possibly seasonal affective disorder.

People are literally depressed by the weather.

Many experts say the leading cause of S.A.D. is the gloomy, gray weather, like Chicago has had for months.

It usually goes away in the spring. That is, if spring ever comes.

While many can suffer from S.A.D. without being full aware of it, many others are enjoying this historic snow fall.

Environmentalists even say that while it is tough on people now, this is pretty much how it's supposed to be.

Another big winner this winter is Lake Michigan.

The unusually heavy ice cover on the lake is expected to boost water levels when it thaws, and keep the lake cooler longer this summer.
