(previous story)

The taste of freedom was brief for Andrea Walker. Just ten days after she'd posted bond, the mother of previously missing 7-week-old Aniston Walker, a grim-faced Walker, was led handcuffed through the basement of the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center and back into the custody of Memphis Police Homicide detectives. Within hours, Walker was charged with the first degree murder of her daughter.

Walker's dramatic re-arrest comes less than 24 hours after the decomposed body of a baby was discovered by a motorcycle rider passing through the Jones Orchard area in Millington. The baby's remains were taken to the Shelby County Medical Examiner's Office where an identification of the less than one year old child was apparently made based on the infant's physical description and the clothing that matched that of Aniston. It caps a day that began when detectives asked to talk with Walker on Monday morning.

Blake Ballin, counsel for Andrea Walker said, "The police wanted to speak with Ms. Walker and she was up in our office this morning discussing things. Deciding whether she was going to make a statement or not. She ultimately decided this is not the right time to make a statement. We told the investigators that and she turned herself in." He went on to say, "as long as they have probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed they can keep her in custody."

The mystery of baby Aniston's disappearance began in late January. Walker then told MPD officers; she left the baby at home with her three year old child to take another child to school. She claimed when she got home Aniston was gone. A massive three day search of the home and a construction area near the house in the 5600 block of Falling Bark turned up nothing. The 33-year-old Walker was initially charged with four counts of aggravated child abuse and child endangerment. Those charges were later reduced to two counts of aggravated child abuse, Neglect or Endangerment.

Memphis Police had always felt Andrea Walker's original story of her daughter's disappearance just didn't make sense. Perhaps, to Andrea Walker, it didn't make sense to stick with it anymore.

MPD RELEASE:

On February 16, 2014, at approximately 12:16 p.m., the body of a female Black infant was found in a ditch on Singleton Parkway, south of Hwy 385. The infant's physical description and clothing matched that of Aniston Walker. MPD Homicide investigators were contacted and made the scene at which time it was determined that the discovered body was that of 7-week-old Aniston Walker.

On today's date, February 17, 2014, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Andrea Walker reported to 201 Poplar Avenue and was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder in the Perpetration of a Felony to wit Aggravated Child Neglect or Endangerment and First Degree Murder in the Perpetration of a Felony to wit Aggravated Child Abuse.

"Our investigators never gave up on this case and many man hours were devoted to this investigation. However, under the circumstances of the disappearance of Aniston, we were afraid that the outcome of this investigation would not reveal a positive ending. It is heartbreaking to confirm that an innocent child's life has been taken, but now family members of Aniston Walker can have closure and begin the healing process of losing a loved one," said Director Toney Armstrong.

Within hours after Memphis police confirmed the baby found was that of seven-week-old Aniston Walker, community members brought flowers and teddy bears to the scene where she was found.

"I have gone through every possible thing with all three of my kids. There's no way. There's no way," said Sandra Burns of Munford, "We left roses and stuffed animals for her (Aniston), and I would hope that maybe this opens up somebody else's lives because there's help."

Many from the Millington area shocked that Aniston's body was found on the side of a well-traveled road.

"My grandma, she drives by here every day and she looks this way but she never realized to actually look inside the ditch," said Carissa Brown, 13, "You just don't do that to a child."

No word on Aniston's cause of death or when an autopsy report will be available.

Andrea has a court appearance Tuesday morning.
