CORDOVA, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Seven-year-old Dominic Jeffries of Cordova, who was reported missing Wednesday evening after walking a small dog in his neighborhood, was found alive Thursday morning.

Dominic was located approximately 100 yards from his home in the 7500 block of Emerald Greens in a group of bushes, according to Memphis Police.

He had been missing 14 hours after a City Watch was issued by police Wednesday evening.

He was not injured but was transported to Le Bonheur Hospital as a precaution.

Shelby County Sheriff's officers joined the search late Wednesday evening. Police said Dominic spent the night in the bushes while police, a Shelby County Sheriff search and rescue team, and others frantically searched for the little boy.

Everyone is happy the 7-year-old is warm and back at home. We all know many of these stories don't turn out nearly as well, but now there are some questions about his night in the bushes.

Dominic was first reported missing just after 5 p.m. Wednesday after he was last seen walking his dog around his Cordova neighborhood.

But as night fell, there was no word of him and police and others were called in to search.

"Last night the circumstances were very cold and it was so dark, just very difficult," said David Han, neighbor.

Neighbors like Han, who lives right across the street from the boy. joined the search. He can't imagine himself spending the night outside, much less a young boy.

Around 3 a.m., 10 hours after Dominic was reported missing, the family's dog turned up at the house.

Then around 7 a.m. little Dominic was found under some bushes, a mere 100 yards from his home.

"Finally we feel just a great release because we heard he was found," said Charity Groves, the boy's mother.

Groves was on scene immediately after her son was found, visibly upset.

"They wouldn't tell me anything, just said he was found in bushes and he's okay," Groves said. "Couldn't nobody see him?"

According to relatives, Dominic was living with them at the Cordova home at the time he disappeared. Groves said she's just relieved and wanted to get to see her son in person at the hospital.

"I'm glad that he's okay and I can't wait to see him when I get down there," Groves said.

Police officials said Dominic was found wearing cammo gear, which likely helped him survive Wednesday night's frigid temperatures.

Family members said Thursday afternoon Dominic is relaxing and doing better, but it's still unclear why the 7-year-old walked away from the home with a dog.
