Father offering reward after man shot in the head by burglar

Posted: Updated:
TAYLOR, Mich. (WJBK) -

John Joseph Henry, 42, returned home with his wife Monday night. The couple noticed the back door had been kicked in. They entered inside and interrupted a home intruder bagging jewelry and Henry's antique hunting rifles.

FOX 2's Maurielle Lue is told when the couple noticed the intruder Henry looked at the man and said, "You can still walk out of here." But, seconds after than, Henry was shot.

Henry's father, also John Henry, shows Lue exactly where the incident took place in his son's home. He says the intruder was hiding in a closet when his son walked into the doorway. The bullet entered Henry above his right eye.

"He's going to lose an eye; he's going to have multiple problems," says the father. Henry will likely be paralyzed on his left side and will not be able to walk without crutches.

Police say the suspect is a thin, white male about 5 feet 7 inches tall in his late 20s or early 30s and weighs about 150 pounds.

Henry's family believes the intrusion was not random because the thief appeared to know exactly what he was after.

Henry's father is offering an out-of-pocket $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the intruder and shooter.
