HORN LAKE, Miss. (FOX13) -

Horn Lake couple Jack "Tommy" Raines and Amanda Raines possibly could face the death penalty if convicted after their 11-year-old son was found dead inside their home.

The Raines were arrested Tuesday evening in a Hernando hotel after their son Tyler was found dead Feb. 6.

"They both have been charged with capital murder, and the underlying charge to make capital murder is felonious Child abuse and neglect," Horn Lake Police Lt. Scott Evans said during a news conference.

"I came home for lunch and there was crime scene tape and police everywhere," said Cheryl Barbee, who lives across the street from the Raines house.

Barbee remembers Tyler.

"He was an absolute doll," she said. "Everything was 'Yes ma'am' and 'No ma'am,' 'No ma'am,' 'Please,' and 'Thank You.'"

"The child was found in a bathroom," said DeSoto County Assistant District Attorney Steven Jubera. "Photographs were taken, evidence was collected, and at this point that is our understanding this is where the child passed."

The DeSoto County DA's office and Horn Lake Police being very careful not to jeopardize the case against Tyler's biological father, Jack Raines, and his stepmother, Amanda Raines, only saying the 11-year-old weighed just 56 pounds, which they say would put him in the bottom fifth percentile for kids his age.

Barbee had noted Tyler's appearance.

"I asked about how old the little boy is and I said, 'What is he? About 7-8-years-old?," Barbee said. "She said, 'No, he is 11, just a picky eater.'"

Horn Lake Police officers have worked overtime on the case since a 9-1-1 call first came in from the Raines house on Feb. 6.

"It has been one of the toughest cases I have had to work, and my guys have had to work it is a child involved," Lt. Evans said.

FOX13 News has learned the Raines have had many as six other children, and those children have been placed in protective custody.

Neighbors who knew the Raines say they would describe them as "good country folks."

The Raines are being held in the DeSoto County jail in Hernando each on $250,000 bonds. They are due in Horn Lake Circuit Court on March 20.
